VIA 09: Inclusion is for all in Edgefield Secondary

Hello! We are a VIA team from Edgefield Secondary and we have partnered with AWWA to help children and adults with additional needs.

Although many efforts have been put into place to welcome children and adults with additional needs, there is still a small portion out there who still feels discriminated against by the community. For example, according to a disabled rights advocate, Sara Mauldin, she stated that during her childhood, she had met a boy with additional needs who acted weird and was treated like an outcast by people around him. Moreover, what she had observed is not only confined to schools but actually all around the world! A small portion of society are still ignoring or leaving children and adults with additional needs unnoticed, which is so awful! So what did we do?

As a team, we researched more about the unfairness that children and adults with additional needs have faced and the reasons behind this treatment. Most of them related to the public not treating them equally due to lack of awareness. Hence, we found a local beneficiary, named AWWA, who offers all sorts of ways to provide help for children and adults with additional needs like fundraising, donating or volunteering!

As a result, we have decided to set up a campaign to provide additional aid for AWWA to further support children and adults with additional needs.

Who is AWWA?

AWWA is a social service agency which delivers a wide range of programmes and services to provide support for children and adults with additional needs. These include early intervention for preschoolers, education and integration support for children and adults. Moreover, they even provide social assistance for vulnerable families, and care services for seniors.

How does our campaign support the beneficiary?

Our campaign supports our beneficiary – AWWA, through helping them to raise awareness of students about AWWA and their mission to aid the children and adults with additional needs.
