Hello! We are a VIA team from Edgefield Secondary and we have partnered with Beyond Social Services. Beyond is a charity which aims to help children and youths from less-privileged backgrounds break free from the poverty cycle.
Singapore is a highly developed country. Would you be surprised if you were to find out that food insecurity still affects the people living in Singapore? A study conducted by the Lien Centre for Social Innovation at the Singapore Management University (SMU) surveyed 236 Singaporeans in four low-income neighbourhoods being served by food support groups. It found that nearly 1 in 5 participants in these areas reported severe food insecurity in 2018.
When we learnt of the many households, including youths and young children who were experiencing food insecurity and poverty in Singapore, we felt the strong need to raise awareness and do something about it. As a team, we then decided to raise funds for Beyond through the sales of merchandise, because we strongly believe that other children and youths, like ourselves, deserve a bright future.
As such, we hope to receive your support in raising funds by purchasing our products and spreading awareness for this meaningful cause!
What is food insecurity?
Food insecurity is the disruption of food intake or eating patterns due to the lack of money. People suffering from food insecurity often do not have reliable access to a sufficient quantity of affordable and nutritious food.
How can I contribute to this initiative?
You can support us by simply ordering the merchandise put up in the e-Shop! Each merchandise has also been carefully designed to spread awareness of food insecurity.
