VIA 06 : Sustainability @ Edgefield Secondary

Hi! We are a VIA team from Edgefield Secondary and we have partnered up with Nature Society Singapore. The Nature Society (Singapore) or NSS is a non-government, non-profit organisation dedicated to the appreciation, conservation, study and enjoyment of the natural heritage in Singapore, Malaysia and the surrounding region. It is a registered society in Singapore under the Societies Act, Cap. 311.

Singapore is a highly urbanized and developed country. It would be no surprise to us that pollution and deforestation is a huge issue in this tiny island I call home. Singapore’s total land mass only has an area of 728.6 km² while neighbours like Malaysia has an area of over 390000 square kilometres! Especially given Singapore’s population, the government is on a spree to build new housing estates, at the expense of the already scarce vegetation we call forests. As we live in such a highly developed country, finance is not a problem for many, and most of us enjoy life with necessities all given, we lead very comfortable lives with no extreme hardships thrown at us. Because of this, we are pampered and we take things for granted. This then leads to other problems, pollution included as we did not bother to find a rubbish bin, just leaving our trash where we used it.

When we found out about the animals losing their habitats, the suffering they endure from eating inedible waste left by man, we felt the strong need to raise awareness about this situation and to do something about it. As a team,we decided to raise funds for NSS through the sale of merchandise as we strongly believe that the beloved animals that call Singapore their home deserves to keep their homes as much as us humans do.

With that being said, we hope to receive your support by spreading awareness for this meaningful cause!
