We are a group of Year 3 students from Edgefield Secondary School. As part of our Values-in-Action (VIA) project, we have conducted research on an issue and are interested in bettering the community around us.
At the start of this year, we had conducted some research about Poverty. From our research, we know that 10-14% of Singaporeans face severe poverty, and that due to Covid-19, household income for poorer families dropped 69% last year. Singapore has also ranked 26th most income disparate country out of 136 countries. As disabled persons may also need to fork out extra costs, such as for surgery, equipment and caretakers etc, which equates to a large increase in living cost, hence, we decided that working on solving this issue will be a good choice, to help ease the stress that disabled persons may face due to poverty.
We hope that the aforementioned reasons provide you an understanding of both our project and a desire to make an impact on our community.
