VIA 01: Edgefield Loves Cats

Hello! We are a VIA team from Edgefield Secondary and we have partnered with Cat Welfare Society (CWS). The Cat Welfare Society is a society which aims to engage the community to achieve sustainable and humane management of cats in Singapore through advocacy, sterilisation, mediation and educational outreach programmes.

Singapore is a highly developed country. Would you be surprised if you were to find out that in the year 2000, the number of inhumane culling of cats reached as high as 27,000 cases in Singapore? However, a study shows that the number of inhumane culling of cats has been decreasing over the years. This is due to the Cat Welfare Society’s tireless campaigning over the years against the inhumane culling of cats. This has resulted in a record low of less than 1000 cats put down since 2015.

When we learnt that there were such a huge amount of cats being culled to control the stray population in the past years, and that the Cat Welfare Society can help out in this situation by sterilising the cats, we felt the strong need to raise awareness and do something about it. As a team, we then decided to raise funds for the Cat Welfare Society through the sales of merchandise, because we strongly believe that every cat in Singapore deserves to live and have a place where they can call home.

As such, we hope to receive your support in raising funds by purchasing our products and spreading awareness for this meaningful cause!

What is cat sterilisation?

Cat sterilisation is the process where the cat population would be reduced as lesser cats would give birth to more cats. Cat population can then be controlled. When the number of cats reduces gradually, more resources can be dedicated to each of them and in turn, this reduces the burden of community caregivers.

How can I contribute to this initiative?

You can support us by simply purchasing the merchandise in the e-Shop! Each merchandise has also been carefully selected to spread awareness of cat sterilization.
